Overview
InfoSlides produces a continuous HLS video stream from your slideshow. Modern hotel IPTV systems accept custom IP channel sources in HLS format, which means your hotel IT team can add InfoSlides as a dedicated channel in the room TV guide — guests switch to it with the remote, just like any other channel.
This guide covers what you need, how to configure common IPTV systems, and the limitations to be aware of.
Prerequisites
- An InfoSlides account on the Professional or Business plan (broadcast channels require a paid plan).
- A configured slideshow with your hotel content.
- A Broadcast Channel created in InfoSlides — see Devices → Create broadcast channel. This gives you a permanent stream URL that plays without a paired device.
- An IP-based IPTV system at your property (see System compatibility below).
Your stream URL
After creating a broadcast channel, open the device detail page and copy the Playlist URL. It looks like:
https://stream.infoslides.app/streams/YOUR_TOKEN/playlist.m3u8
This is the URL you will add to your IPTV system. Keep it confidential — anyone with this URL can view the stream. You can regenerate it at any time from the device detail page if it is ever shared unintentionally.
Stream format
- Protocol: HLS (HTTP Live Streaming)
- Video codec: H.264
- Resolution: 1080p (1920 × 1080)
- Audio: None (digital signage content is silent by default)
- Segment duration: approximately 4 seconds per segment
Adding the channel in common IPTV systems
The exact steps vary by system. Below are the general steps and notes for the most common platforms.
General steps (any IP IPTV system)
- Log in to your IPTV middleware management console.
- Navigate to Channels or Channel List.
- Add a new channel and set the source type to IP / HLS / HTTP (exact label varies).
- Paste your InfoSlides playlist URL as the stream URL.
- Set the channel name (e.g. Hotel Info or your property name).
- Assign a channel number and save.
- Push the updated channel list to room TVs (may require a restart or overnight push depending on your system).
LG Pro:Centric
In the Pro:Centric Server admin portal, go to IP Channel under the channel configuration section. Add a new IP channel, select HLS as the stream type, and enter the playlist URL. Assign a logical channel number. Push the configuration to connected TVs via the Pro:Centric broadcast.
Samsung REACH
In the REACH Server web interface, navigate to Customised Channels. Add a new IP channel entry with type HLS and paste the stream URL. Set the channel number and push the channel plan to the property TVs.
Philips MediaSuite / CMND
In CMND, open TV Channels and add a new IP channel. Select HLS as the source type. Enter the stream URL, assign a channel number, and publish the channel list to rooms.
MwareTV, Nonius, Uniguest
These third-party middleware platforms each have their own channel management interface. Look for an option to add a custom IP channel or IPTV channel with an HLS source URL. Refer to your middleware vendor's documentation for the exact menu path — the concept is the same across all platforms.
Bandwidth per screen
A typical InfoSlides stream uses approximately 2–4 Mbps per screen. This is the bandwidth consumed by each room TV that is tuned to the InfoSlides channel. Most hotel network infrastructure handles this easily — it is comparable to a standard HD video stream.
If your property has many rooms and you expect most guests to tune in simultaneously, confirm with your network team that the IPTV VLAN can carry the load. In practice, not all rooms tune to the same channel at once.
System compatibility and limitations
Supported: Any modern IP-based hotel IPTV system that accepts HLS custom channel sources. This includes LG Pro:Centric, Samsung REACH, Philips MediaSuite/CMND, MwareTV, Nonius, Uniguest, and most other IP middleware platforms.
Not supported (RF/coax distribution): Older hotel TV systems that distribute channels over coaxial cable (RF headend) do not accept IP stream sources directly. Adding an IP channel to an RF headend requires an IP-to-RF modulator — a piece of hardware that converts the IP stream to an RF channel signal. This is a standard piece of broadcast equipment, but it requires installation by a broadcast AV specialist and is not something hotel IT can typically self-install.
MPEG-TS / UDP multicast: Some older IPTV platforms expect channels as MPEG-TS over UDP multicast rather than HLS over HTTP. InfoSlides does not natively produce MPEG-TS output. A local FFmpeg transcoding instance can convert the HLS stream to MPEG-TS in real time, but this requires a server on your network and is outside the scope of InfoSlides support.
Content recommendations for room TV channels
Guests browsing the hotel channel from their room respond best to content that is relevant to right now or tomorrow morning:
- Current weather and overnight forecast
- Road conditions and travel advisories (especially relevant for destinations like Iceland)
- Breakfast hours, restaurant menus, and today's specials
- Spa booking availability and amenity hours
- Local events happening today or this week
- Your Google review highlights
All of this content can be automated through InfoSlides content sources — no manual updates needed once configured.
Rotating the token
If your broadcast channel URL needs to be changed (for example, if it was shared accidentally), go to Devices, open the broadcast channel, and click Regenerate token. Update the URL in your IPTV system with the new playlist URL. The old URL stops working immediately.
